Designer Hella Jongerius was born in 1963 in the Netherlands. She is trained as industrial designer from Eindhoven Design Academy. In 2000, she started her own design studio, JongeriusLab. Today, Hella Jongerius has studios in both Utrecht and Berlin. Here, she creates her own products such as cutlery, vases, textiles and furniture. Hella's works mix craftsmanship and industrial methods – a mix of hightech and lowtech. She finds inspiration from contemporary design mixed with conventional designs. And she loves applying new industrial techniques and materials to create unique products. Hella Jongerius works for many renowned companies such as Artek, Danskina, Maharam and not least Swiss furniture manufacturer Vitra, for which she has designed the wonderful Polder Sofa, East River and several other interesting products. Together with the Bouroullec brothers and Jasper Morrison, she is behind most of Vitra's Home Collection.
