James Irvine (1958) was born in London. He graduated from The Royal College of Art as a furniture designer. Today Irvine lives in Milan where he develops products for renowned international design companies. He worked on ambitious public projects such as design of urban busses for the German city of Hannover. Irvine is known for his ironic distance to his work as industrial designer, which is evident in his often humoristic product designs. For Irvine, it was important that the products are functional and not just give the impression of being design for the sake of the design.
